Weekly Reflection – Feb 16
Hello All,
I attended the Pro-D seminar on AI literacy. Unfortunately, I did not find the information overly helpful. The talk itself was fine but the information covered was essentially the same as what we covered during our lecture a couple weeks ago. It also started 15 minutes late because of technical difficulties; not their fault, but irritating nonetheless.
Although most of the information wasn’t new, there were two aspects that I found interesting. The present shared their website, https://focusedresources.ca/, which contains plenty of information regarding generative AI. It also has specific lessons that teachers can use to instruct students on AI literacy, privacy, and cybersecurity. It might be a valuable resources in the future.
The other interesting point was that the presenter stated that she does not use ChatGPT anymore. She has consciously moved away from the platform for ethical reasons. I did not dig into these reasons but she alluded to ChatGPT’s changing policies regarding pornography. With the very real concern for sexploitation, cyberbullying, revenge porn etc, educators should do their best to only support platforms that do their best to restrict these activities.
I consider myself to be a fairly novice level AI user and have only really used ChatGPT. I am going to delve into Gemini and see if that might become my platform of choice. An article from AI Magazine listed Gemini as the second best option behind ChatGPT, followed by ClaudeAI and Microsoft Copilot (https://aimagazine.com/news/top-10-generative-ai-tools). I may give others a chance after my exploration of Gemini.
Have a great weekend!
